Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. General Registration

Q: How long does it take to register a .mt domain? A: Registration requests are processed immediately upon submission but remain in a Pending state until approved by NIC administration. Once approved and paid, the domain becomes active.

Q: Can I register a domain for 2 years? A: Yes. During the renewal or configuration process, you can select a 1 Year or 2 Year renewal period. 2-year renewals often come with a discount (e.g. 10% off).

2. Status Codes Explained

3. Documents & Verification

Q: What is the “Activation Document”? A: To verify your identity as a Handle holder, you must upload a signed authorization form. This can be done via the Profile section.

Q: What is an e-signature? A: The system supports both drawn signatures (drawing on screen) and typed signatures for document verification. These are legally binding for NIC operations.


Troubleshooting Guide

Issue: “I can’t see my domain in the Dashboard.”

Solution:

  1. Ensure you are logged in with the correct Handle.
  2. If you are an administrative contact (but not the Holder), ensure the Holder has granted you permissions.
  3. Check if the domain was registered under a different “Organization” handle.

Issue: “My nameservers aren’t updating.”

Solution: DNS propagation can take up to 24-48 hours globally. If the update is reflected in the “My Domains” details page but not working online, please wait for propagation.

Issue: “I didn’t receive my Tax Invoice.”

Solution: Tax Invoices are generated only after payment is confirmed. Check the Invoices tab in your dashboard. If the status is still “Proforma”, payment has not been reconciled yet.
